Askew One/ Elliot O'Donnell is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist from Auckland, New Zealand. He is currently based in Los Angeles (USA).
Askew One has roots in the graffiti scene during the early '90s when he became one of the critical graffiti artists from the South Pacific region. He has been an integral figure in the local NZ scene through his organization of Auckland's first graffiti festival, publishing of a Graffiti Art magazine and the establishment of multiple gallery spaces. He has also co-authored a book showcasing New Zealand graffiti art 'In-Form' (2008 Montana Book Awards finalist). Since 2010 Askew One has evolved his art practice more into the Post-Graffiti realm. He has turned his focus to studio work and large scale outdoor murals to establish himself in the world of contemporary fine art. His works are completed with a combination of analogue (primarily painting) and digital technologies. He enjoys portraiture, which he creates with a sense of movement and bold mark-making. He applied his methods successfully in the creation of two lithographs at Auckland Print Studio, which are characteristic of his portraiture work. |
